Pete, in Wales, is receiving mental health crisis treatment, and an approved debt adviser starts a mental health crisis breathing space. His treatment lasts four months. How long does the breathing space last?
The Insolvency Service guidance on the Debt Respite Scheme (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 (checked 11 Oct 2026) says a mental health crisis breathing space lasts as long as the crisis treatment plus 30 days, however long the treatment lasts. The 60-day limit applies to a standard breathing space. The scheme covers England and Wales, so Pete qualifies.
